According to the Government Office announcement, the visa exemption took effect from March 15. The Government assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop immigration policies with partners having bilateral and multilateral relations; to negotiate with other countries on the recognition of each other's vaccine passports that creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to go abroad; to promulgate guidelines for the application of vaccine passports by foreigners in Vietnam; to notify other countries about changes in Vietnam's visa policy.
On the same day, the Government issued a resolution on visa exemption for citizens of the following countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus. These are the countries that have been unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam since the end of 2019.
Citizens of the above countries are allowed to enter Vietnam for a 15-day stay, regardless of passport type and entry purpose. This policy is implemented from March 15, 2022 to March 14, 2025, and will be considered for an extension in accordance with Vietnamese law.
Before the outbreak, Vietnam exempted visas unilaterally for 13 countries and bilaterally for 88 countries and territories. However, from 2020, the Government had issued a resolution to stop implementing this mechanism to prevent epidemics.
Today, Vietnam starts opening tourism to international visitors.
